Festival of Flowers
Spring arrives at Biltmore Estate (in Asheville) with a rush of colorful, fragrant blossoms. During Festival of Flowers, the estates seasonal beauty is showcased with a stunning tulip display in the Walled Garden, cascades of native and exotic blooms in our natural gardens and walking trails, and delicate arrangements inside Biltmore House. On the weekends, Biltmores Winery joins the celebration with a commemorative Festival of Flowers wine and music, wine programs, and childrens activities. In the Farm Village, blacksmiths, woodworkers, and farmers demonstrate their skills on Saturdays and Sundays.

Erin Bode Group

Each year, Grovewood picks a different local charity to donate a portion of their sales to. Proceeds of this years sale will benefit Helpmate. Helpmate is a domestic violence agency that works with our community to eliminate abuse and fear. In the past year alone, more than 2,200 women and children received assistance from Helpmate. Helpmate provides safe, confidential shelter and offers services such as a 24-hour Crisis Line, individual and group counseling, court advocacy programs, and preventative education to professionals, community leaders, and groups considered at risk of being abused. All services are free and confidential.

Jazz After 5
Live jazz from Dave Perkins Certified Organic and The Golden Quartet will be the featured sound for the Grove Arcades April Jazz After 5 performance of 2008 taking place Friday evening, April 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Grove Arcade and the Asheville Downtown Association co-sponsor the free concert series that features local musicians and food from area restaurants. Beer, wine and appetizers from local restaurants will be available for purchase.

NOC Outfitter's Store Demo Daze
New for 2008! All 60+ boats in NOC's massive demo fleet will be available for free-test paddling on the Nantahala River. Paddlers can also practice up in the pool, as well as in free creeking and playboating clinics. Plus, get a first look at new whitewater gear for '08. It's like spring training and opening day all in one weekend!

Rhododendron Truss Show and Plant Sale
The SE Chapter, American Rhododendron Society Truss Show features hundreds of blooms plus regional nurserymen selling unusual rhododendron and companion plants. Azaleas as well as spring and summer blooming rhododendrons are favorites of the weekend. Regional nurserymen and vendors will be present.

Weaverville Art Safari
The Weaverville Art Safari is a free self-guided studio tour. It is a full weekend with an almost inexhaustible list of studios to visit and tour. Visitors can expect to meet the artists, see demonstrations, tour many of the artists work environments, and browse through/purchase art directly from them. It is an opportunity to learn about how art is created, and enjoy the rural landscape while traveling from one location to the next.

Opening the Flat Rock Playhouse 2008 Professional Season is Dames At Sea with book and lyrics by George Haimsohn and Robin Miller and music by Jim Wise. In Dames At Sea, New York salutes Hollywood in this affectionate spoof of the 42nd Street-Style musical of the 30's. Charmingly reminiscent, Dames At Sea is a show within a show with a hardboiled leading lady, tap dancing babes, handsome sailors, and a stage on the deck of a battleship!
